Dean, NTPC School Of Business

Pramod P. Kulkarni specializes in energy management for sustainable development and offers courses titled Energy Economics, Energy Modelling, Energy Business Management at NTPC School of Business (NSB). He was awarded the Best Engineering Executive Trainee of 7th batch of NTPC.
He is a Mechanical Engineer with master’s in Management, Computer Applications and Economics and Doctorate in Management. “Power Trading & its Impact on Future Electricity Market in India” was his Ph D topic. Financial Performance Analysis by Economic Value Added (EVA) technique and Work Life Balance at remotely located power stations were his dissertation works in MBA (Finance) and MA (Economics).

He started his career with NTPC Limited in 1982 as Engineering Executive Trainee and during 37 years at NTPC he has worked in various areas which include Erection and Commissioning of Power Projects, Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of Supercritical Power Stations, Consultancy for Power Project Erection & Commissioning, Inspection of Power Plant Equipment during Manufacturing stage for Quality Assurance (QA), Safety during Construction, Erection, Commissioning, O&M phases of Power Stations and Vigilance (Compliance). He has rich experience in the areas of acquisition of Land, R&R, and CSR.
He has undergone Leadership Program at Harvard Business School, Boston, Compliance Management at ISB Hyderabad, Land Acquisition at National Law School of India University Bengaluru, Legal aspects of Contracts & Business of XLRI, Welding at Welding Research Institute, Trichi, Tamil Nadu.

He has deliverd lecture on Emerging Dimensions of Market Driven Power Sector: Engineering Challenges, in Dr R S Pandey, Distinguished Lecture at IIT Kanpur (2019) and presented papers in International O&M Conference on Predictive Maintenance Practices (1999), Improvement of Reliability of Power Plants & State of Art Technology (2001), Reliability Centred Maintenance Workshop of Centre for Power Efficiency and Environmental Protection (CenPEEP) (2000), He was the Co-guide of M Tech (Power Gen Tech) IITD student (Guide Dr G S Yadav, IIT Delhi) 1999.

He was Head of Power Project (225 MW Solar PV Project at Bilhaur, UP, 2×800 MW Telangana Super Thermal Power Project), Head of Power Station (2600 MW Ramagundam Super Thermal Power Station), Regional Head of Inspection Services for QA function, Corporate Head of Safety and Vigilance functions of NTPC Ltd, Regional Executive Director of NTPC, Southern Region, CEO of Power Station of Arawali Power Company, a JV of NTPC, IPGCL, HPGCL, Director, Transformers & Electricals Kerala Ltd (TELK) a JV of NTPC Ltd and Govt of Kerala, Nominee Director, NTPC Tamil Nadu Energy Company Ltd (NTECL), a JV of NTPC Ltd & Tamil Nadu Generation & Distribution Corporation Ltd (TANGEDCO).

He was a Member of NTPC’s deligation to Japan to study International Practices in the areas of Project Management, Power Plant Layout, Design and O&M at Kyushu Electric Power Company (KEPCO) and visited Reihoku Thermal Power Station (2×700 MW) & Matsuura Thermal Power Station (1×700 MW) (Sept 2008)
Before joining NTPC School of Business in 2022, as Professor of Practice and Dean, he has worked as Project Executive Offices at Centre for Energy Regulation (CER), IIT Kanpur.
